Psychiatrist

We are looking for a full-time psychiatrist to provide psychiatric health care services consistent with the philosophy of American Indian Health & Services. Provides psychotherapy services, medication management for PCP’s and participation in developing the Integrated Behavioral Health Program at AIH&S.

GENERAL DUTIES

  1. Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders thorough psychiatric evaluations, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, and evaluate treatment results. 
  2. Assess and screen patients by conducting psychiatric evaluations, including interviews, medical histories, physical exams, observations, and psychological testing
  3. Analyze data and results of assessments to diagnose patients
  4. Prescribe and administer medications according to diagnosis
  5. Monitor patients to determine efficacy and potential side effects of medications
  6. Develop a treatment plan, measure progress against the plan, and make adjustments as needed
  7. Provide crisis intervention as needed
  8. Collaborate with a broader team of physicians, psychologists, and nurses to assess and adjust treament plans
  9. Coordinate and communicate with case managers and other stakeholders about treatment and care
  10. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of acute, chronic, and long-term psychiatric issues.
  11. Maintains legible, accurate, and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatment, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with NCQA (National Committee for Quality Assurance), JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations), and state regulatory standards.
  12. Maintains BLS or ACLS certification
  13. Excellent knowledge and familiarity with current DSM criteria
  14. Participates in chart reviews and audits
  15. Assist and prepare for the program review by funders including the Indian Health Services, State Indian Health Program, Local Managed Care program.
  16. Participate in committees such as Quality Improvement committees.
  17. Provide in service education with staff as needed.
  18. Cultivate a knowledge and understanding of Native American culture.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PREREQUISITE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Graduate of an accredited medical school
  2. Completion of a residency program in psychiatry
  3. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of California
  4. Prefer Board Certification
  5. Prefer experience in an Indian Health Care or community health care setting.
  6. Spanish speaking preferred but not required. 

 

Salary Range for this position is $300,000 – $350,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications. This is an exempt position and does not qualify for overtime.
