Facilities Assistant

Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician                                                      FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Performs general cleaning and minor maintenance duties in maintaining the administration, medical, dental, nutrition, and behavioral health buildings, adjacent walks and grounds, and equipment in clean, orderly and functional condition. Provides assistance to staff, visitors and other employees as necessary.


  1. Performs work according to standard procedure and by building’s operational schedule.
  2. Cleans rooms, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, stairways and windows.
  3. Uses brooms, mops, and floor equipment to sweep, mop, strip and wax floors.
  4. Uses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and blinds.
  5. Dusts furniture and equipment.
  6. Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors and sills.
  7. Makes minor carpentry, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs.
  8. Performs touch up and finish painting.
  9. Empties wastebaskets.
  10. Replenishes restroom supplies.
  11. Replaces light bulbs.
  12. Sets up and tears down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms, and function rooms.
  13. Picks up and delivers supplies and materials to various departments.
  14. Follows all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  15. Reports work accomplished orally or on written work order to supervisor.
  16. Understanding of OSHA requirements related to Health Facility.
  17. Collects Bids on direction for repairs beyond scope of job description.
  18. Manages outside contractors in work orders.


  1. Participates in general cleaning, painting, and repair work.
  2. Uses hand tools and power tools in making minor maintenance repairs and maintaining grounds and walks.
  3. Assists in shipping and receiving of library supplies and materials.
  4. Provides assistance to officials, staff, visitors, and other employees as necessary.
  5. Checks building at beginning and end of shifts.
  6. Participates in building coverage by working evenings and Saturday rotation as required.


  1. The skills and knowledge required would generally be obtained with previous experience in building cleaning and maintenance work.
  2. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions.
  3. Ability to relate to officials, staff and public in a courteous manner.
  4. Ability to acquire job skills with three months of on-the-job training.
  5. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing from 25-50 pounds.
  6. Valid Driver’s License
